Leadership is a sacrifice…Jesus modeled servant leadership and we don't think that has changed in the last 2,000 years. We sincerely believe in the "priesthood of all believers"…meaning every follower of Jesus has a calling and responsibility to carry on the mission of Jesus in the world. We set aside some who are called to take on an increased roll of servanthood and responsibility of vision.
The word "pastor" simply means "shepherd"…we often call all church leaders by this term, but that can be a little misleading. Leadership can take on many different strengths…the Apostle Paul outlines this in Ephesians 4:12-14. The Bible also has a lot of different descriptions of what and who a leader in the church is (often called "elder"). In the early days of the church leadership was made up of people pastoring local churches. Every one of our Neighborhood Churches is led by one or two community pastors (shepherds)…the collection of these community pastors is the guiding group for our community as a church.
We are an open community and welcome anyone to explore, draw near to, and worship Jesus with us. If you are searching for a way to become more involved and committed at a deeper level we invite you to take on our "Rule of Life" and share in our core practices and rhythms. This is how we define the core of our community for the purposes of "membership. By having this be an annual process we not only invite everyone to continually consider and value their commitment by staying active and engaged, but it helps us avoid the things associated with "membership" such as entitlement and preferences that can make churches stale and self-indulgent.
